Rendono, Alandroal, Vila Viçosa, Borba & Estremoz - 52km / +620m
After having breakfast, we'll start our trip your trip leading to the eastern part of Alto Alentejo. During today's tour, you'll get the chance to breathe the calmness and generosity of this region. You'll first ride the direction of Redondo, a very cute town with a medieval castle known for its Popular Feast where all of the town is decorated with flowers made with paper, a tradition that comes from the XIX Century. From the you'll take some beautiful roads passing by Terena and Alandroal, two other typical and beautiful towns from this region, both with medieval Castles. After a short coffee break, you'll continue to the amazing Vila Viçosa and its impressive Royal Palace. It's not only impressive because of its majesty of marble construction, but also the Terreiro do Paço, a major square in front of the Palace where you will see the statue of King D. Joáo IV. After this unforgettable visit, either you ride to Estremoz (for about 30km), or take your van to the restaurant, where you'll get the chance to taste some new Alentejo flavors. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3
Redondo, Evoramonte, Arraiolos & Évora - 80km / +753m
On your third day of riding, Évora will be waiting for you. After eating breakfast at your hotel, you'll ride towards Evoramonte, a small town on the top of a hill, where its medieval castle still stands in rather good condition. The climb up there is demanding, but rather short and totally worth it. The views are amazing and the old village in between the walls is very cute! Taking a right-hand side turn to Igreja village, you'll continue through some unknown and car-free roads towards Arraiolos, best known for its impressive carpets, filled with history embroidered by hand. There's still some time to pass by the Divor dam before you arrive in Évora, where you will have an unforgettable gastronomical and wine-tasting experience. You still have some time to walk around the city and visit some of the most famous monuments, such as the Roman Diana Temple and the Cathedral. The way back to the hotel will be done by van! Dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Rendondo, Santiago Maior, Monsaraz - 45.4km / +439m
After having breakfast, you slowly prepare yourself to get out on the bikes. It's a rather easy day with about 45km and not more than 500m of climbing... Most of this climbing is done when you arrive at the unforgettable and charm medieval town of Monsaraz, on the right bank of the Guadiana River. From the top of this lime and schist town and its castle, you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Alqueva Dam, the largest artificial lake in Europe. Lunch in Mionsaraz in a typical restaurant, boat experience in the Alqueva. The way back to the hotel will be done by van! Dinner and overnight.
Day 5
Campo Maior to Marvao - 66km + 1165m
Today, you'll try something different... After having breakfast at the hotel you'll take the bike van and trailer towards the quiet and serene town of Campo Maior, from where you'll start riding. Next to the Spanish border, the tradition says that the origin of this town burned from 3 peasant families who wanted to start a new village in this region and at the same time protect themselves from strangers. This will be a tour where you'll ride through the most unknown and ancient roads of Alentejo, and observe the longest cork tree fields of this region. You couldn't go without riding to Marvao, a medieval walled town known for its narrow and picturesque streets and unlimited tranquility. The scenery from the top of this hill and its castle is simply breathtaking! Lunch at a typical restaurant. You still have time to visit Castelo de Vide, one of the most important towns with a deep Jewish influence in its construction and traditions. The way back to the hotel will take about 1 hour and will be done by van. Dinner at the hotel and overnight.
Day 6
Reguengos - 45km / +507m
Breakfast at the hotel. On your last day riding you'll start riding with a huge trophy in mind! Alentejo is a well-known region for its exclusive wine and regional products such as olive oil and wine, and you couldn't leave without those flavors in your mouth and soul! From the hotel, you'll ride by Montoito, a small, cute village where you'll get the chance to check (and maybe buy) some of the best black pig sausages from Alentejo. Then, towards Reguengos de Mmonsaraz, from where in only a few more kilometers, you'll end up on this tour with a lunch and a visit at Herdade do Esporao, an exclusive farm where not only the wine and olive oil but also several unique products are produced. The place is fabulous, and it not only breathes Alentejo but also reveals the purity of this Portuguese unique region. In the afternoon, you'll be back at the hotel by van. Dinner at the hotel and overnight.
