The cycling route goes from Moscow, the modern Russian capital, to the old one, St. Petersburg, through the oldest one, Novgorod the Great. You will be charmed by the spirit of olden times in Torzhok, Staraya Russa or Valday. You will pass Russian pearls, like Valday with its famous bell museum and the Iversky monastery. In Staraya Russa you’ll visit the museum of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, who wrote there his novels The Brothers Karamazov and The Possessed. The stunning Russian nature over the woody Valdai hills, where the Great Russian Volga river starts In Novgorod you will see its ancient Kremlin, magnificent St. Sofia Cathedral and wonderful Russian Millennium Memorial. You will be surprised with the luxurious beauty of grand palaces and parks, built for Russian Tsars in St. Petersburg. After the tour you can return to Moscow by comfortable night train or stay longer in St. Petersburg , the north capital of Russia. Sint Petersburg, is one of the most breathtaking cities on earth with baroque bridges.

On the route you can choose your own cycling pace, a car will wait for you at the appointed places along the route. Experienced guides will look after you in case of difficulties. If you are tired you can always take a car for some part of the route. Even non-riding spouses, children or friends are welcome to the tour and they can follow us with the car. Most roads along the route do not have heavy traffic and are covered with asphalt.

Itinerary Cycle Russia from Moscow to Saint-Petersburg
Arrival in Moscow (no cycling). You will be met at the airport by a guide and taken to the hotel Izmailovo. Hotel is located in the east part of Moscow next to the biggest Moscow park and 5 minutes walk from underground station. It takes 15 minutes by metro to get to the Red Square. After short briefing and buffet dinner we will go for a walk in the center of Moscow.
Early bus transfer to Lotoshino. You will cycle from there to Staritsa – around 70 km by quiet country road. On the way we may visit unusual museum in Stepurino – old Russian merchant village. This museum is held and operated by local volunteers. You will stay overnight in the country hotel next to Great Russian river Volga. You may try Russian steam bath house (banya).
In the morning you go for the short city tour in Staritsa including recently restored Assumption monastery. Then another quiet road leads you to a charming resort hotel– one of the best in this area. Today is easy day - around 50 km. A swimming pool and beautiful Volga are waiting for you in the evening.
You continue your way to Torzhok – around 75 km. The road almost does not have cars and twists through nice forest. Torzhok – an old Russian town, famous for its unique architecture and folk craft of gold work embroidery. Chicken cutlets (called Pozharskie) were invented here. Great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin used to eat them here. Hope you will have them for dinner. The hotel you stay has excellent spa facilities.
Morning transfer to lake Seliger. Lake Seliger is situated within a picturesque landscape of forests and hills. The lake is a protected nature reserve and is sometimes known as the "European Baikal" due to the diversity of its unique flora and fauna, similar to Lake Baikal. After visiting Saint Nil monastery we will cycle 60 km to another nice country hotel (14 km of gravel road). Overnight in the hotel faced to lake Seliger. Russian steam bath is available.
Early bus transfer to Visuchy Bor. From here you cycle to Staraya Russa– around 75 km (at least half of it is a perfect recently made road with very few cars). Staraya Russa is old provincial town famous for a balneological (spa) resort and Fedor Dostoevsky museum. (Fyodor Dostoevsky used to live in Staraya Russa from 1872 till his death in 1881. He wrote here his novels The Brothers Karamazov and The Possessed.) You stay in the hotel which is a part of old spa resort.
After visiting Dostoevsky museum there is short bus transfer to Borki from where you cycle scenic road along lake Ilmen to Veliky Novgorod (35 km). Veliky Novgorod is one of the oldest Russian cities supposed to be the most influential in that time which gives you grounds to call it the first capital of Russia. The center of the city including outstanding Kremlin is World Heritage Site. City-tour in Novgorod with local guides.
You start in Novgorod and cycle to Spasskaya Polist around 70km along Volkhov river by quiet road. At the end you will be transfered to St. Petersburg. Here you will have a Farewell dinner.
Departure day…..Time to say goodbye, a good flight back home or a pleasant stay in St Petersburg. There will be a city tour for those who leave late afternoon.
