Cycle ” the Queen Mother” off all cyclosportives.

La Marmotte is one of the most challenging cyclosportives in the world and is also called “the Queen Mother” of all cyclosportives. The famous Gran Fondo La Marmotte is a 170-kilometer road cycling race. The La Marmotte 2024 includes many legendary cols of the Tour de France. Cycle up Col du Glandon, Col du Galibier, Col du Lautaret and the Alpe d’Huez. The date of the Gran Fondo La Marmotte 2024 is confirmed for Sunday, June 30. Every year the Gran Fondo La Marmotte will take place on a tough course in the French Alps around the Alpe d’Huez.

The original European sportive and still one of the hardest. The Marmotte takes in four giant alpine climbs, all legendary from the Tour de France finishing with the mighty Galibier and then Alpe d’Huez. A serious challenge! Also part of the Marmotte weekend is the Grimpee Time Trial on Friday and the Ultra route option with over 6500m of climbing which takes place alongside the Marmotte on Sunday.

Day 1
Friday June 28 - Arrival Check in
Fly into Lyon or Geneva where the team will meet you. The transfer takes just over 2 hours from Lyon and 3 hours from Geneva. Please make your way to Alpe d’Huez today or make use of our optional airport transfer from Geneva airport where the team will meet you. The transfer takes 3 hours from Geneva.
  • Group airport transfers from Geneva Airport - €175 return/ € 120 one way.
  • Today there are two airport transfer which departs Geneva Airport at 11.00 and at 16.00. Please book a flight that arrives before the transfer time. You can book a group airport transfer for €120 for a single journey and € 175 for a return journey per person with luggage and bike.
  • What about my bike? You can bring your own bike as its no problem to transport bike boxes on airport transfers. The mechanic will be available this afternoon at the hotel to assist you with building your bike after travel. Bikes can be safely stored at the hotel.
  • Group Meal Night This evening you will meet the group meal at a local restaurant which is bookable as an extra at € 30 per person per night.
  • Guided ride? If you are on the earlier arrival, there will be a guided ride down Alpe d'Huez, over the Balcons, and back up the Sarenne departing Alpe d'Huez at 15.30.
  • This afternoon you can go to the expo to collect your race bib for tomorrow. This afternoon and early evening, the tour leaders and bike mechanics are available for you.
Day 2
Saturday June 29- Registration
Day 2 - Registration day, Event Expo, and Race briefing
  • Registration today from 10.00 until 20.00. This will be at the Palais des Sports in Alpe d'Huez. There will be plenty of time today to build your bike and make some last-minute adjustments if required. The staff will be on hand to assist you.
  • After breakfast and preparing the bikes, you can go on a supported, guided ride that takes in the Villard Reculas climb which is the easiest way to get back up to Alpe d’Huez and descend to Bourg d’Oisans, ride along the valley floor and climb back up to Alpe d’Huez.
  • You’ll be back at the hotel in the afternoon for you to rest and get prepared for tomorrow. This evening the bike guides will do a race briefing to run through Marmotte day logistics and of course the route.
Day 3
Sunday June 30- Marmotte Cyclosportive
You will have an early start this morning. Early breakfast is arranged in the hotel restaurant. The Marmotte start is done in waves. You will be allocated a start pen with a time that you must enter the pen plus a start time. The Marmotte is a race with one cut-off point. You need to have passed the start of the Alpe d’Huez climb in Bourg d’Oisans before 18.00 otherwise you will be eliminated from the race. If you’re eliminated your bike will go on a bike trailer and you will be transported to the finish in Alpe d’Huez or you can still climb Alpe d’Huez and finish in your own time. Once you finish in Alpe d’Huez, there’s no need to worry as you are staying near the finish. This afternoon and early evening you’ll assist with re-packing your bikes ahead of travel. The evening is free for you to eat out in one of Alpe d’Huez’s many restaurants.
Day 4
Monday July 1 Departure day
After breakfast,  our optional transfer back to Geneva airport.
  • Airport Transfers: Geneva Airport on Monday
  • Transfer 1: Depart Alpe d’Huez at 07.00 (for flights departing after 12.00)
  • Transfer 2: Depart Alpe d’Huez at 10.00 (for flights departing after 15.00)
Medical
MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
You will be required to attend Race Registration on Friday between 14.00 and 20.00 or Saturday from 10.00 until 20.00. This will be at the Palais des Sports in Alpe d'Huez. PLEASE NOTE, AT REGISTRATION, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PRESENT A DOCTOR'S NOTE STATING THERE ARE NO KNOWN MEDICAL REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT COMPETE.
