Sardinia road cycling holiday, experience all the beauties of this wonderful island. Sardinia is the second-largest Mediterranean island and has a lot to offer. The Sardinia on road bike Trip covers an outstanding cycling loop in the Northern part of the island. It is possible to start the grand tour either in Alghero or Olbia, whichever is the most convenient for you. Feel like a pro just as Vincenzo Nibali or Fabio Aru in the Giro d’Italia! Enjoy panoramic medieval villages, sunshiny beaches, or small mountain ranges with physical action. Furthermore, the locals are just like all Italians, warm and friendly. A warm welcome awaits you when you arrive on this wonderful Island.

Your start will be in Alghero, a very popular tourist resort. Walk around the ancient walls of the old town in the evening and enjoy Alghero’s history and Sardinian culture. From Alghero, you will start your tour on perfectly secondary paved roads, almost free of traffic. The route will take you right to the middle of Sardinia as you follow your way due to the traditional villages and old towns, like Bonorva and Pattada. At last, you go down to the East Coast town of La Caletta. This is beautiful because of its ancient town of fishermen and the cozy restaurants. The coastal way along the Mediterranean Sea brings you to the lively center of Olbia. After Olbia, you’ll cycle to the city of Castelsardo before you reach finally Alghero again.

Day 1
Check in
Check-in around 14.00 at your hotel in Alghero Town. This beautiful town will be your starting point for your upcoming tour. There will be a briefing, bike setting, and map delivery. Airport - transfers (on request). Overnight in Alghero
Day 2
Alghero to Mores 81 km - altitude 1270m
You leave the Old ancient Town of Alghero behind you. Your first cycle south and you'll see beautiful coastal views of the Mediterranean Sea. Soon you climb inland to Villanova Monteleone which stands on an ancient volcanic hill. This small little village is only 25 kilometers away from Alghero. Enjoy the views whilst passing Lake Temo before you continue all the way down to Mores. Overnight in Mores
Day 3
Mores to Pattada 79 km - altitude 1516m
Today you'll cycle through the Goceano mountain range with its wild & remote interior. At your hotel, you jump on your bikes and cycle through Foresta Burgos, an area that’s renowned for its horse-raising traditions with rural landscapes. After some 35km, you already reach Bono the most important center of the Goceano district. After the ancient village of Bono, you continue your way to Bultei before you reach Pattada. This tiny little village feels like the real and rustic Sardinia with its narrow cobblestone streets and pine forest at the top (79km). Overnight in Pattada
Day 4
Pattada to Posada 86 km - altitude 1230m
Cycling in Italy is great! Day four is waiting for you. In front of the hotel, you step on your bike again for another beautiful ride on this wonderful Island of Sardinia. You'll cycle to the east coast through the stunning limestone range of Monte Albo, passing typical small villages like Osidda & Lodè before you make the descent to Siniscola. Freewheel downhill to La Caletta/Posada. La Caletta (little harbor) is a pleasant holiday resort town. After your exciting cycling day, you’ll enjoy a gastronomic Italian dinner and chat with the friendly locals. Overnight in Posada.
Day 5
Posada to Olbia 55 km - altitude 300m
A relatively easy day with 55km of cycling pleasure. You check out at your hotel for your next destination Olbia. Olbia is a tourist destination and is famous for its stunning beaches on the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. On today’s ride, you will enjoy spectacular views when you cycle all along the Mediterranean Sea. Immerse in the beaches of Budoni and the fantastic views on the amazing island of Tavolara. From the touristy town of San Teodoro, you navigate all the way back to Olbia with the azure Mediterranean Sea constantly on your right-hand side. Discover the lively town of Olbia in the evening. Overnight in Olbia
Day 6
Olbia to Castelsardo 103 km - altitude 1400m
Get up early, and after breakfast, you'll head to Castelsardo. It will be a hard day in the saddle. You cycle through the cork oak forest of the Limbara mountain range to Tempio Pausania. This is the administrative capital of the province Olbia-Tempio and is well known for its typical granite buildings. Then you'll cross the villages of Aggius and Valledoria through La Valle Della Luna "moon valley"' before you reach your final destination of today, Castelsardo. The old town of Castelsardo is a picturesque historic town on the north coast of Sardinia. Especially the old town is worth fully visiting with Castelsardo's castle (Castello dei Doria) as the main principal tourist attraction (103km). Overnight in Castelsardo.
Day 7
Castelsardo to Alghero 97 km - altitude 1340m
Unfortunately your last cycling day on the beautiful island of Sardinia. You leave Castelsardo behind you and peddle over the rolling hills of Anglona. You'll pass the castle of Oslo. The region of Oslo is economically based on agriculture and sheep farming. Later you pass the city of Sassari. Sassari is the second largest city in Sardinia. The city has beautiful square centers, and boulevards and relies on tourism. Then you continue to the west coast town and our last destination...Alghero. Wander around in this beautiful ancient Catalan town with its historical walls and old buildings. Exchange your stories in the evening with your fellow Italian friends (97km). Overnight in Alghero

Airport

  • The airport of Alghero is used by Ryanair a budget company and is also called Fertilia Airport. Alghero is only 12 kilometres south of the airport and there are regular bus fares between Alghero Centre and Fertilia Airport.
    The Airport of Olbia is also used by budget airlines except for Ryanair. Every 15 minutes there are buses running to Olbia centre. Take Bus 2 & 10 (except on Sundays) to Olbia.
  • The Sardinian most important airport is Cagliari Elmas Airport (Mario Mameli). It handles over 2.5 million passengers per year. The airport is only 6 kilometres from Cagliari city Centre. Buses leave frequently to downtown. It takes only 15 minutes to Piazza Matteotti.

Ferry Boats

  • The most important ports of Sardinia are Olbia, Porto Torres and Cagliari. All ports in Italy have connections to Sardinian Island.
