Itinerary Cycle Lake Como Guided 2018

 

Day 1

Check in around 14.00 at your hotel in Cernobbio. This beautiful town will be your starting point for the upcoming week. The tour leader will explain the coming activities and itinerary for this Cycle Lake Como program.

Day 2

After breakfast you'll first leave for a beautiful loop ride (mostly flat) starting from your hotel in Cernobbio. Today's ride will take you into Switzerland. You cycle along Lake Lugano's most quiet roads and cross the Italian and Swiss border a few times. Enjoy the atmosphere of quaint Swiss little towns whilst riding along Lake Lugano. Stop for coffee in Pontetresa (almost half way into today's ride) and from here carry on back into Italy to Cernobbio. Total distance 84 km Route elevation 640m. Overnight in Cernobbio Hotel Trezocrotto.it


Day 3

Leaving Cernobbio, today’s ride will ultimately lead you to the Intelvi Valley .... riding along the lake to the Swiss town of Lugano, the views open up to Monte San Salvatore just in front of you and Monte Sighignola across the lake on top of Campione d'Italia. You will pass luxurious villas and stunning gardens, and come back into Italy at Gandria. More lake side riding will take you to the lake village of Porlezza an ideal coffee or lunch stop sitting at tables overlooking mountains and of course the lake. A little further on, you start the 7 km climb to San Fedele into Pian delle Noci. Here you have the option to do a detour to the village of Pigra, nested on the side of the mountain with from the most stunning view of all Lake Como. Total distance 84 km - Route elevation 1.800 meters. Overnight in Schignano: La Locanda Sant'Anna

 

Day 4

Cycling in Italy is superb! Waking up with breathtaking views of Pian delle Noci your day’s ride starts with a climb to the top of La Sighignola, also named the "Balcone d'Italia" . On top you will have a magnificent view over the whole northern Alps chain, lake Varese and lake Lugano. Take your time take cycling on the switchback descent and enjoy the scenic route, leaving Monte Generoso on your left and almost literally falling onto lake Lugano. Cycling to Lake Como, you will take the lower road, passing famous villas such as Villa d’Este and the residence of George Clooney. From Schignano, just before Argegno, you start the climb back up to Pian delle Noci, in time for an afternoon aperitivo taken in the gardens of your Hotel. Total distance 84 km - Route elevation 1.700 meters. Overnight in Schignano: La Locanda Sant'Anna

 

Day 5

Pian delle Noci (Val d'Intelvi) to Bellagio. A wonderful ride taking in the highlights of Bellagio and the little church of the Madonna di Ghisallo. Leaving your Hotel at Pian delle Noci, you’ll descend to lake Como, riding through San Fedele to Argegno. You first take the lower road along the lake to Lenno. From here you cycle to Cadenabbiaand take a short ferry ride over to Bellagio Explore this idyllic little town, with its many lake-side cafeterias and little restaurants before you start a gradually climb up to Magreglio, the famous cyclists mecca where you can admire the little chapel of Madonna di Ghisallo, dedicated to all cyclists. Visit the "Museo del Ciclismo", with regalia of the most famous world riders. You can top your ride with a Panino alla Pantani from the local bar! The carefree descent will take you to Valbrona, from where the views of the Lecco branch of lake Como opens up in front of you. From Onno you ride again along the lake again passing through Oliveto Lario till Bellagio. Hotel in Bellagio Hotel Pergola. Total distance 68 km - Route elevation 1.600 meters


Day 6

Bellagio is a perfect setting to chill out or to visit some local sights of interest, such as Villa Balbianello across the lake or the village of Varenna or Menaggio. Alternatively, if you are keen to cycle, a loop ride will take you to Nesso, from where you start a gradual but long climb to Pian del Tivano and on to La Colma di Sormano. Here at the Rifugio della Colma, you can indulge in some local specialities such as Polenta with local cheese, home made pasta with Porcini mushrooms and other delicacies whilst enjoying the outstanding views of the Lombard Alps! After a winding descent (or alternatively descending the famous "Muro di Sormano"), you will reach Asso from where you climb back up to Magreglio (Madonna del Ghisallo) and then down to Bellagio. Day 7 

Unfortunately your last cycling day. This is just a relaxing day along the southern shores of lake Como. Never leaving the lake side, it rollercoaster’s for 30 km, passing small villages and old churches. With time to spare, the old part of Como with its imposing Duomo is a lovely centre to explore by foot or by bike. From here, a short ride will take you to Cernobbio going through the Gardens of Villa Olmo, facing the lake. This is your last evening in Italy, and there is a great choice of local restaurants in the little square facing the lake, where you can celebrate the end of a great cycling holiday. Day 8

Departure day…..Time to say goodbye, a good flight back home or else a pleasant stay in Italy. Transfers to the Airport Milan Malpensa will be made by the Tour guide.

Airport/ Train Information Cycle Lake Como

Airport
The most important gateways are the airports of Milan.

Milan has three important airports; the most important airport is Milan Malpensa, from here many flights leave /arrive worldwide. There are many regular flights to/ from Madrid, Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Berlin, Rome, London Heathrow, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Athens, Zurich and more very important cities from all around the Globe.

The second airport is Milan Linate which has a lot of domestic and European flights to all important cities in Europe. There is a shuttle bus connecting Malpensa with Linate Airport. The ride between the two airports takes more than an hour.

The third airport is Bergamo Airport (officially Orio al Serio International Airport) and is northeast of Milan, close to the city of Bergamo. This airport is especially used by budget companies like Ryanair.

From Milan Malpensa Airport to Milan Central station are Malpensa Shuttle busses departing: every 30 to 60 minutes Length: 1 hour.
From Milan Linate International Airport to Milan Central station busses departing every 30 minutes Length: 20 minutes. 

Bergamo Airport has no direct train connection, but there is a shuttle bus that takes you to the station in Bergamo.
