Gaiole is small picturesque village right in the middle of the Chianti region. This beautiful village is situated between Florence and Siena. Every year on the first Sunday of October it seems that the time stops for a magic weekend and we all go back in time for the L’Eroica bicycle vintage event. The L’Eroica cycling trip 2016 is a very special one. It includes many unique features and plenty of highlights! This 8 days L'Eroica 2016 & Chianti trip will be closed at only 12 persons, so book early. Cycling Italy is great especially the beautiful region of Tuscany & Chianti. Discover the peaceful countryside roads with very little traffic when we climb the rolling hills of Chianti. Don’t forget to visit the vintage bicycle stands during the L'Eroica Gran Fondo. Last but not least.... you will cycle the Grandfondo L'Eroica in Gaiole. The Grand Fondo L'Eroica is one of Italy's most famous cycling events with over more than 4500 cyclist! On Sunday, you can choose the most suitable route. Do not forget that the Eroica is not a race, but the celebration of those who love cycling.

Check in at your 4 **** hotel in Siena. This beautiful city will be your starting point for the upcoming L’Eroica & Chianti trip. At 19.30 The tour leader will explain the coming activities and itinerary. Welcomes drink and dinner will be provided. Bike fitting at 18.00.
DAY 2 Tuesday 27 September Siena to Buonconvento
After breakfast the route of today starts through Siena “ the city of the Palio”. Outside Siena you cross the gentle hills of Siena with the typical ups and downs. You continue along the Val d’Arbia on a mix of white, unsurfaced and asphalted roads. After Radi and Vescovado you will reach Buonconvento. This is beautiful village is situated among the hills of the Crete Senesi and Val d’Orcia. Dinner included.
DAY 3 Wednesday 28 September Montalcino circuit
The traditional route of the Eroica can be divided into three rings. The southern part can be covered as a closed circuit up to the low summit of Montalcino and the Val d’Orcia. From here you enter the white gravel roads where your accommodation is and where you will stay for two more days in. This region of Tuscany is the one you always see on those picturesque postcards! Dinner provided.
DAY 4 Thursday 29 September Buonconvento to Radda in Chianti
After breakfast you will leave Buonconvento behind you for a new top destination : Radda in Chianti! You will start cycling towards the north deeper into the Crete Senesi. The rolling hills are undulating here. On a few points the white gravel roads become steep and unsurfaced. However, once a top is reached, breathtaking panoramas can be admired. You will feel “heroic”. Soon you reach Asciano before you go up to Villa a Sesta, where lunch wait for you. The support van take you further to Radda in Chainti. Dinner included.
DAY 5 Friday 30 September Radda in Chianti route
Radda in Chianti is your permanent base before the Eroica event. In the morning you will cycle the northern ring of the Eroica, which corresponds to the first and last part of the 209 km route. You cross the Chianti Classico area, with its world famous vineyards. You will get stunning views. The last white gravel road leads you to Vertine through the vineyards and then to Gaiole. Gaiole has always the start and finish place of the Eroica. You cycle the last slope through the park of the sculptures in order to reach Vagliagli, before arriving back in Radda in Chianti. Dinner included.

Breakfast is between 4am and 5am with transfer to Gaiole. The long routes start at 5.00 (135 and 205); the other ones at 8.30.
In 1997 the Granfondo L'Eroica started with some 100 riders. In the last edition of 2015 there were 5500 participants from all around the world. The L'Eroica passes the famous Strade Bianche. The world famous Strade Bianche refers to the white gravel roads in the Siena region and roughly 35 per cent of the course is on the Strade Bianche through the beautiful countryside of Tuscany. The L'Eroica event is specially made for the vintage cycling enthusiast. The week is full of festivities and finally the start and finish find place on Sunday 7th of October. The whole ambience of the event is superb. You can choose the following options 38km, 75km, 135km or the challenging 205km. Enjoy your day! In the afternoon there will be a prize-giving ceremony A rich and varied dinner is served at 20.00 : Pici hand-rolled pasta, wild boar, cinta pig and many wines for a small own prize-giving party with your fellow cycling friends!
DAY 8 Monday 03 October
Unfortunately it’s your last day! It’s time to say goodbye and thanks, a good flight back home or else a pleasant stay in Italy. On request : transfers to the airports of Florence or Pisa will be made by the tour guide.
Airport/ Train Information cycle trip L'Eroica & Chianti 2016
Florence international Airport is named after one of the most famous Italians : Amerigo Vespucci. There is no train connection with the airport to the city. From Florence railway station there are good connections to all kinds of cities in Italy. The airport is lies only four kilometers away from Florence. Shuttle buses leaving every 30 minutes. Florence airport is only 80 kilometres away from the airport of Pisa, Galileo Galilei.
Pisa Airport is two kilometres from Pisa and 80 kilometres from Florence. You can find the train station just outside the terminal. Pisa Airport lies directly on the highway Florence-Pisa-Livorno. Because the airport is so close to the city a ride to the center of Pisa does not take more than ten minutes. Both airports are the gateway to Tuscany, one of the most popular holiday areas in Italy.
There are many flights:for example to/from Madrid, Brussels, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Berlin, Rome, London Heathrow, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Athens, Zurich and many more very important cities from all around the Globe.
The airport of Pisa handles many budget airline companies like Ryanair or Transavia. Ryanair flies to/from Dublin, London, Edinburgh and Liverpool and Transavia to/from Rotterdam airport.
There are many trains leaving to Siena. For example from Lucca,Florence or Pisa.
