Itinerary Amstel-Gold Race
Check in around 14.00 at the 3 *** hotel in Valkenburg. For those who want to have a railway station pick up please contact us. Valkenburg is nice tiny village and has the finishing place of the 2016 Amstel Gold Race. Welcome drink and evening dinner will be provided. The tour leader explains the coming activities for this Cycle Tour in Holland.
A day to celebrate! Are you a top class performer? Let’s see how you will do! So come and join us today with some other 12.000 cycling fanatics. This biggest cycle event in Holland is a must do challenge. Directly after our breakfast you leave to the start in Valkenburg. You will receive an itinerary, a registration chip, sport-food and drinks. There’s always technical assistance on the route. The former 12th editions have been a fantastic success. This event always takes place one day before the professional Amstel Gold Race Classic. You and your bike are one, moving together, riding steep climbs on narrow roads and absorbing the nature around. It certainly is a life time experience! You'll ride 150 km (93 miles) through Southern Limburg. Note: it’s not a race. After the Amstel Gold Tour version you go back to your hotel. Evening at leisure.
Day at the races. Be a spectator for a day! There’s nothing better. You will see the most important race in Holland. Why? Because today is national cycling day in Holland, everybody comes out to celebrate this monument of cycling. Have fun and enjoy your day with the Dutchies. You get up early. First breakfast and then you’ll leave as soon as possible to Maastricht Market square to watch the start of the Amstel Gold Race. Take a peek at how the professional riders prepare themselves for this awesome day. After the start you go back to Valkenburg to see the riders live in action. In Valkenburg at Cauberg hill you will see the riders passing three times. This year the finish line will be 1.8 km after the top of Cauberg hill in Valkenburg. On top you will watch the stage live on a big screen. Don’t blink! Evening at leisure.
Departure day…..Time to say goodbye, a good flight back home or else a pleasant stay in Belgium or Holland. Transfers Maastricht Railway station will be made by the tour guide(s).
Belgium’s and Holland’s main airport are Zaventem International Airport and Schiphol International Airport. There are many flights to and from Madrid,Paris Charles de Gaulle, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Berlin, Rome, London Heathrow,Copenhagen, Barcelona, Athens, Zurich and many more very important cities from all around the Globe. Another important airport in Belgium is Charleroi International Airport. Ryanair has a lot of flights to/ from Charleroi like Rome, Barcelona, Manchester and Milan. Eindhoven Airport, only 90 kilometres from Maastricht has regular flights between Eindhoven and many important cities in Europe.
Dusseldorf International Airport is also an option and has many flights to /from European cities like Zurich,Madrid, Milan, Dublin, London Heathrow,Prague, Lyon and several other destinations.
Maastricht has a small airport with flights to/from Berlin, Moscow and Milan.
The Airport’s train stations are located below Zaventem’s International Airport and Schiphol International Airport. From Zaventem’s Internatoinal Airport, there are 4 to 5 trains an hour to/from Brussels North, Brussels Central and the main station Brussels Midi. From here all trains connect you to several destinations in Belgium and to Maastricht Railway Station.Trains from Schiphol International Airport to Maastricht Railway station are running every half an hour and the train ride takes two and an half hour.The Thalys (fast train between Paris and Amsterdam) has frequent fares, at least every half an hour between Paris Gare du Nord - Lille - Brussels Midi- Antwerp- Rotterdam – Amsterdam. The Eurostar (train which connects Great Britian to Continental Europe) from/ to London has up to 9 fares per day.
